Urakusatsu Tou, a modern-style ryokan — wood, iron, indirect lighting, shadows. Very unusual dinner, also stylish. Everything was delicious, nothing to complain about. Will appeal to those who aren't big on traditional kaiseki — it's a mix of modern European cuisine and kaiseki. The baths use water from Ura-Kusatsu springs, and like everywhere in Kusatsu, it's top-tier acidic water. The large communal bath isn't very big, and there's a kashikiri (private bath) available by reservation for an extra fee. On the downside, the kashikiri bath on the roof is closed in winter. And the parking is a bit far, though they shuttle you back and forth by car.
