Inunakiyama Onsen Yama 乃 Yu

598. 犬鳴山温泉 山乃湯, Inunakiyama Onsen, Osaka ★ Old-school onsen for 900 yen. Operating hours from 10:00 to 18:00. They stamp the Wakayama 88 Onsen book. There was a cool story with the old man. I approach the upper entrance (there's also a lower one from the parking lot). Glass door, looks exactly like the entrance. Behind it is an old man. I try to slide the door open — it's locked. I gesture to him about the lock. He just stands there staring at me, this goes on for about a minute. I stand there gesturing more — he doesn't react. Then he walks away, sits down on a chair across from the door, and just sits there looking at me. I stand there looking at him too. Then I pulled out my onsen towel and showed it to him. After that he came to the door, realized it was locked, and opened it for me. I paid, he stamped my book and showed me where to go. On the way out the old man had already warmed up to me — smiling and talking a bit more. Flies buzzing around in the bath area, some small insects, a dead cockroach in the corner occasionally being eaten by other bugs. Indoor bath with a view of trees through slightly fogged glass. Water is clear, slightly cloudy white, strong soapy/slippery feel, with sparse fine white mineral fragments. Temperature around 42°C. Breathing inside is fine, but there's a slight drain-like smell. No insects in the bath itself. A unique old-school place with interesting water. Worth a visit when in Inunakiyama Onsen, if the above doesn't put you off. 12.06.2025
