629. Hotel Shirahamakan, Shirahama, Wakayama ★★ Higaeri for 1000. Higaeri stated as 13:00 to 20:00. Part of the Shirahama tegata (2 stickers). They issue Toreco cards for the onsen. Staff was Japanese and very approachable. During rush hour they had trouble finding a taxi, but the young guys persisted and found one; while I waited, they lent me a charger. 1. Epic indoor bath styled like something out of the movie Alien. Clear slightly yellowish water with some fine mineral deposits on the surface. 45 degrees. 2. Outdoor area. Not as striking as the indoor bath, but also has its own atmosphere and visual appeal (apparently some renovation was underway). 2.1. Main bath. Clear slightly yellowish water. 42 degrees. 2.2. Round bath. Clear slightly yellowish water. 41 degrees. A cool distinctive onsen. If the above doesn't put you off, recommended for a visit. 17.06.2025
