Classification

Sodium Carbonate-HSiO3 spring

An alkaline simple sulfur spring carrying the faint rotten-egg note of hydrogen sulfide. The pH is strongly alkaline, giving the slippery, soft-on-the-skin feel of Japan's beauty-water family. Lightly mineralized and gentle on the body, it makes for a mild, easy soak rather than a heavy mineral bath.

396. Koraku-no-Yu, Asakura, Fukuoka Visited for higaeri for 800, but the regular price outside the stamp rally is 1,000. Higaeri hours are 06:30 to 10:00 and 13:00 to 23:00, but the outdoor bath on the 4th floor is only accessible during the second time slot (they don't let you up there before 10:00). They stamp the 88 Onsen of Kyushu book. Bath photo from the internet matches reality. Indoor bath. Inside it's stuffy and hot. 1. Bath with clear water, temperature 43-44. 2. Bath with clear slightly yellowish water, temperature 40. 3. Sauna. 4. Cold bath. Without the outdoor bath, this one can definitely be skipped unless going for the achievement.
