About

A ryokan that has stood on the shore of Lake Shikotsu for over a century, with open-air baths looking out over the lake and the forested hills behind it. The highlight for many visitors is the ten-nen-yu (天然野湯), a natural wild bath right at the lakeside where the water level rises and falls with the seasons (sometimes shallow, sometimes not). Indoors there are baths at three temperatures, a Finnish sauna with self-löyly, and private reserved baths for those who want the view to themselves. The ryokan is a member of the Hito wo Mamoru Kai (秘湯を守る会), the loose association of inns that look after Japan's more out-of-the-way hot springs.
