Otasshan Yu (おたっしゃん湯) is the neighbourhood name for Wakihama Onsen Yokujo (脇浜温泉浴場), a public bath in Obama Onsen that has been running since 1937. The building itself goes back even further, to the Taisho era. Inside, two connected indoor pools sit under a high ceiling with a single bare bulb hanging above; regulars adjust the temperature between the cooler and hotter tubs themselves. The water is clear and faintly salty, fed fresh by kakenagashi. A traditional bandai (番台) reception desk separates the men's and women's sides. No soap or shampoo is provided. The bath is one of the Kyushu Hachijuhachi-yu (九州八十八湯), the Kyushu 88 Onsen circuit.
