Chū Sei Kan

A quiet inn at the far end of Shima Onsen, right on the river. The outdoor baths include the Kajika-no-yu, Yakushi-no-yu, and Tsukimi-no-yu, all linked stone baths built using rocks hauled from the Hinamigawa River by the first innkeeper. The water is a calcium-sodium sulfate spring, flowing undiluted from the source. The seasonal mixed outdoor bath (available from mid-May to mid-October) allows swimwear. The building is old and the decor minimal, but the place is kept scrupulously clean and the river sounds carry into the baths.
