Classification

Sodium Sulfate-Bicarbonate spring

A sodium-led sulfate-bicarbonate spring (legacy name 'soda-glauber' style), pairing the settled body of sulfate water with bicarbonate softness. Weakly alkaline, it sits in the Japanese beauty-water family. The source emerges at a scalding 98.8 °C — among Japan's hottest natural sources — and is diluted with water before reaching the bath. A generous 355 mg/kg of metasilicic acid leaves the kind of thin silica film that makes skin feel noticeably smoother.

226. Kounkaku / Ooedo Onsen, Naruko Onsen Visited on higaeri for 4 stickers on the local tegate (listed from 15:00 to 18:00). Photos of baths from the internet match reality. A great spacious indoor bath with a black bottom. Water is clear, temperature 41-42, with a mineral rock formation in the center like an Alien egg. Breathing inside is fine. Along some edges of the bath there are barrier tapes for some reason, which slightly spoils the look. Outdoor small bath set in rocks. Standing, you can see a house and forest; lying in the bath, the balcony blocks the view. Water is clear-brownish, temperature 40-41. A worthy place, worth visiting for the interesting indoor bath.
