About

The baths here lean into a lava theme, with the indoor tubs and two open-air pools all styled around the volcanic landscape. On a clear day the rotenburo (open-air baths) look straight toward Mt. Fuji. The facility also claims Japan's first microbubble open-air bath. A sauna and cold bath round things out. The whole place has a compact, Showa-era feel, and the early morning session is popular with people coming off a night climb up the mountain.

162. Fuji-sensui, Yamanashi An onsen. Entry 800 yen and 300 for a towel set. Only found info boards like the ones in the photo. Not included in the Yamanashi stamp rally. 1. Indoor area: 1.0. Breathing inside is comfortable. You can catch a glimpse of Mt. Fuji from the edge of the indoor bath. 1.1. First bath. Water is clear, temperature between warm and hot. Slight chlorine smell. 1.2. Second bath. Basically the same as the first but the water temperature is slightly higher. 1.3. Sauna. 1.4. Cold bath. 2. Outdoor area: 2.0. Can't see Mt. Fuji from the bath itself, but visible when standing, especially from the resting area. The view isn't that interesting though - a lot is hidden by the fence and tree foliage in summer. 2.1. Stone bath. Water is clear, temperature between warm and hot. Probably optimal for summer actually. 2.2. Wooden tub for two people. 2.3. Chairs for sitting and sunbathing. I have mixed feelings - the Mt. Fuji view comes with caveats and there were a lot of people on Sunday - locals, not tourists.
