About

Hirayu no Mori sits in the forests of Okuhida Onsengokyo (奥飛騨温泉郷) and puts most of its energy into the baths. There are 16 rotenburo between the men's and women's sides, fed by two spring sources: one milky white, the other clear. Both flow fresh without recirculation. You move between pools at different temperatures through the trees, with mountain views that shift through snow and autumn color by season. The large indoor bath has an arched ceiling in Meiji-era style. Private rental baths in cast-iron kettle tubs are bookable for day visitors, and a Finnish barrel sauna sits in the forest for those who want it. The five cottages each have their own open-air private bath.
