Yakushiyu (薬師湯) sits in Yunotsu (温泉津), a preserved castle-town streetscape in Shimane that is part of the Iwami Ginzan (石見銀山) World Heritage site. The bathhouse has a single oval indoor bath, known locally as the "lord's bath" (tonosama-buro, 殿様風呂), fed by a naturally rising spring just behind the building. The water flows in and overflows continuously (kakenagashi), and its color shifts through the day and across seasons: clear from the source, it turns amber, gold, or faint green once exposed to air. A private kashikiri (貸切) room is available for families or solo soakers who want the tub to themselves. The building, likely dating from the Meiji or Taisho era, has a rooftop terrace where guests can wait with a free cup of coffee. No soap is stocked in the bath area, in keeping with the idea that the water itself is the point.
