Classification

Sodium Chloride spring

A sodium chloride spring rising at 99.3 °C — one of Japan's hottest natural sources, requiring cooling before bathing. The water is almost colorless and clear at the wellhead, with a faintly salty edge and a whisper of hydrogen sulfide. Weakly alkaline (pH 8.4), it sits in the classic Japanese 'beauty-water' family, and a generous 208 mg/kg of metasilicic acid leaves the kind of silica film that makes skin feel noticeably smoother afterwards.

202. Odoriko Onsen Kaikan, Kawazu Public onsen. Cost 1000 + 150 for a small towel. They stamp the Shizuoka 60 Onsen book. Relatively nearby is the onsen tower at Mineonsen Daifunyu Park with a foot bath and another Shizuoka 60 Onsen stamp. Indoor area consists of: 1. Main bath with clear water, hot temperature. 2. Small bath with strong bubbles, clear water, slightly below hot. 3. Sauna. 4. Cold water bath. Breathing inside is tolerable. Outdoor stone bath with canopy. Bath photo is from the internet — I'd say it roughly matches (they're slightly different, probably male/female). Clear water, hot temperature. In July the bath was nicely cooled by the wind and with the sun it was especially pleasant. In season, you'd presumably be able to see the Kawazu cherry blossoms from this bath. Nice place, recommended together with a visit to the onsen tower.
