427. Shichirida Onsen Konoha-no Yu and Shitan-Yu, Taketa, Oita Onsen consisting of two buildings — Konoha-no Yu and Shitan-Yu, 400 each. Operating hours stated as 9:00 to 20:00. They stamp the 88 Onsen of Kyushu book, but specifically when you pay for and visit Shitan-Yu. Due to a language barrier, it wasn't immediately clear why they wouldn't stamp my book — I thought I'd misidentified the location and needed to go elsewhere, but a taxi driver who had randomly dropped by (the same one who drove me there) helped sort things out and explain the stamping nuance from the elderly ladies. 1. Konoha-no Yu. There was a funny incident here. I'm walking out from the bath area into the changing room, and at that moment a Japanese woman walks in — she'd entered the wrong changing room. She freezes, apologizes, and instead of leaving she starts explaining something in a tone that sounds like she's trying to justify herself. When she finishes her speech, she apologizes again and leaves. Judging by the voices outside, the staff started talking to her and they all had a good laugh. 1.1. Indoor bath with cloudy white-green water, temperature 42. Breathing inside is good. 1.2. Outdoor round bath with cloudy white-green water, temperature 39. View of an industrial "tank." 1.3. Outdoor empty bath with no water. 2. Shitan-Yu. Located in a separate building down the street along the river. They give you a key to get in, which you return to the Konoha-no Yu reception afterward. Bath photo from the internet matches reality. Indoor bath with strongly carbonated water, temperature 37. Breathing inside is good. Turned out to be an entertaining visit — the stamping nuance, the taxi driver sorting things out, and the woman bursting into the wrong changing room.
