The baths here draw from a natural spring called Seimei no Yu (晴明の湯), pulled up from 1,500 meters below ground. The water is faintly salty and leaves skin with a mild silky feel. There are both indoor and open-air baths, and the two styles, Japanese and Western, swap between the men's and women's sides each week. A Finnish sauna and cold bath sit inside the same bathing area. The spring's name comes from Abe no Seimei (安倍晴明), the great Heian court diviner (onmyoji, 陰陽師), who is said to have been born in what is now Chikusei. A sacred well he is said to have received from the deity at Kashima Shrine still stands in the Nekojima neighborhood nearby. Beyond the baths, the complex includes a 20-meter pool, gym, and a restaurant.
