About

Kansyokan sits on the bank of the Oguni River at Semiyu Onsen (瀬見温泉), a spring with a story stretching back about 830 years: legend holds that the warrior-monk Benkei found the source here while searching for water to bathe a newborn in Yoshitsune's traveling party. The inn itself traces its origins to the Edo period, when this valley served as the inner retreat of the local domain lord. There are two large baths, Yoshitsune-no-yu (義経の湯) and Shizuka-no-yu (静の湯), each with an indoor hall and a garden rotenburo. The two swap between men and women on a time-rotation schedule, so over a stay guests can try both. The spring water flows freely in kakenagashi style, is clear, and leaves the skin smooth. From the outdoor baths you can hear the Oguni River running alongside. Seven rooms in the Shippe Club (七宝倶楽部) wing come with their own private kakenagashi baths.
