About

Makoto-no-yu (誠の湯) is the bathing facility of ryokan Yuno-yado Shoei (湯の宿 松栄) in Shimogyo, Kyoto. It has two separate bath zones that alternate between men and women daily: Ki-no-yu (木の湯), lined with hinoki cypress from Hida Takayama, and Ishi-no-yu (石の湯), built from Fuji lava rock. Both zones include an open-air bath, a sauna at around 95°C with auto-lourie, a cold bath fed by well water, and jet-bath recliners. The restaurant Hanaguruma (花車) on the second floor serves seasonal Japanese food for lunch and dinner.

A sento in ryokan décor (actually it is a ryokan, but higaeri is available). The water feels ordinary, though they say the baths are lined with lava stone from Mt. Fuji. The ryokan itself is done in traditional style and is pleasant overall, but purely as a higaeri onsen at a thousand yen, it's not worth it.
