193. Kukuna, Kawaguchiko Stayed overnight. Hotel on Lake Kawaguchiko with Fuji views and an infinity onsen. A fusion of Japanese and Hawaiian themes — in the decor, staff uniforms, and food. Dinner was a set meal + buffet. They honestly gave a double set (the room could only be paid for two people), but it doesn't make much sense since the set itself is small. However, there was a plate from the chef with appetizers — and those were the most delicious appetizers I've ever tried in my life. Everything else was solid too + you could load up from the buffet. Breakfast was a fairly standard buffet. The room was very comfortable — all the conveniences of Western-style, but with stylized tatami and futon sleeping. Got a massage — wasn't great, average. Two sets of baths that alternate between male/female. Both sets have infinity baths with Fuji views. Fuji wasn't visible during my days, so I've added photos from the official website — based on my experience I'd say they match. The evening and morning bath sets are very similar to each other. The indoor bath differs in construction. The outdoor baths also have minor structural differences with infinity views. Overall, cool that they bothered to set up the male/female rotation. Clear water, indoor bath is hot temperature, outdoor bath is between warm and hot. For 3000 I booked a private bath. Nothing special — small bath with clear water and lying slots, hot- water temperature (maybe someone diluted it before me). There's a small balcony. Great place with a powerful Fuji view from the infinity onsen. The fusion is well done — if you need to diversify the ryokan theme, it's an excellent option.
