A gentle hot spring rebuilt by fans nationwide. Surrounded by restaurants in a bustling downtown area, this onsen stands on "Umezono Street," which has existed for over 100 years. Among Beppu's hot springs, it is called "nuruyu" (lukewarm water) with a temperature around 40°C, making it easy for people of all ages to enter. The water is pure hot spring water flowing directly from the source without dilution, allowing you to fully enjoy the genuine onsen experience. It was formerly called Shinchikugawara Onsen, and until around the early Showa period, there was also a sand bath. Founded in Taisho 5 (1916), it is a historic onsen. It was damaged by the 2016 Kumamoto-Oita earthquake and temporarily closed. The current building was rebuilt through crowdfunding and donations. Therefore, the changing room and bath walls and tiles are new and shiny. Displayed are small plates with plum patterns used in the Showa era, and a tile picture of Mt. Fuji brings a soothing atmosphere. The water is refreshing with a soft texture that makes you want to soak slowly. It is rich in metasilicic acid, said to be a component for beautiful skin, leaving your skin moist after bathing. It is a barrier-free bath open to everyone. Original towels and bath additives are also sold. If you are short on time, please enjoy the footbath outside.
