Makinohara's city-run bath hall, named after the Koumare-ishi (子生れ石, "child-birth stones") of nearby Daikoji temple, cocoon-shaped rocks that drop from the hillside "like a child being born", counted among the Seven Mysteries of Enshu. The pale tea-brown sodium chloride water rises from 1,200 meters and is used undiluted; alongside the heated tubs there are dedicated source-temperature baths where you feel the lukewarm spring as it comes, around 27 degrees. Two bath areas with saunas, a reservable family bath, and a soba restaurant round it out.
