About

Yokotekan is a ryokan on the ishidan-gai (石段街), Ikaho's famous stone-step street, with roots going back to the early 1700s. The main building dates to 1920 and is a registered tangible cultural property, and several guests note it as one of the ryokan said to have inspired Spirited Away. There is no open-air bath, but two large indoor baths, Gekko-no-yu (月光の湯) and Oridzuru-no-yu (折鶴の湯), alternate between men and women so overnight guests can try both. All baths use Ikaho's golden spring (黄金の湯, Kogane-no-yu), a tea-brown water that gets its color from iron oxidizing in the air, run as kakenagashi. Five private baths are also available, three at no extra charge for overnight guests.
