A sodium-led bicarbonate spring — the classic jūsō-sen style. Alkaline (pH 8.7), it gives the slippery, beauty-water feel on the skin and sits squarely in Japan's beauty-water family. At the wellhead the water is almost colorless and transparent, tasteless, with a faint hydrogen sulfide note.

About

Aratama no Yu is a straightforward day-use onsen in the Hamakita area of Hamamatsu, close to the prefectural forest park, housed in a round building that stands out from the usual bathhouse shape. There's one indoor bath, Shinrin no Yu (森林の湯), and one outdoor rock-garden bath, Sekitei no Yu (石庭の湯), and the two swap between the men's and women's sides every week. A sauna (bring your own mat) and a reservable private bath round out the options. The spot sits a bit up in the hills, and visitors describe the outdoor bath as open and airy, especially once the weather turns cool. Afterward, the in-house restaurant, Aratama-tei, serves food, and there's a small shop plus a tatami rest area with a kids' corner.

271. あらたまの湯, Hamamatsu Super sento with onsen water for 730. Listed hours 09:00–21:00 (except Mon). They stamp the 60 Onsen of Shizuoka 24/25 booklet. They issue Toreco collector cards for the onsen. Based on the website, baths rotate M/F on different weeks. Online photos match. Has a shop, massage, restaurant, and chill zone. Popular spot — lots of elderly men in the morning. 1. Outdoor area. View of trees. Overall fairly comfortable and cozy, despite plenty of visitors in the onsen. 1.1. Large bath, clear water, "soft" water effect. Temperature 40. 1.2. Small bath, temperature 38. 1.3. Small bath, temperature 40. 1.4. Massage bath. 2. Indoor area. The interior actively uses the look of expensive exposed concrete. Comfortable to breathe. 2.1. Large bath, clear water, temperature 40. 2.2. Small bath, clear water, temperature 38. 2.3. Sauna. 2.4. Cold bath. Really enjoyed the onsen in the morning — recommended when visiting Hamamatsu.
