Classification

Sodium Chloride spring

A sulfur-bearing sodium spring layering sulfate, chloride, and bicarbonate — drawn at 74.8 °C and delivered to the Kawara-no-Yu and Yumae open-air baths at 43.9 °C and 46.6 °C respectively. Near-neutral at pH 7.2, it carries a soft hydrogen-sulfide note with a salty edge from chloride and a touch of bicarbonate softness. The source sits among Japan's hotter natural wellheads, blended in a mixing tank from two parent wells.

About

The baths at Genzo-no-yu (源蔵の湯) Naruko Kanko Hotel draw from the hotel's own spring, maintained since the property first opened. The water is sulfurous and shifts between milky white and emerald green depending on the day, giving each visit a slightly different look. The main bath hall has granite indoor tubs and hinoki (Japanese cypress) open-air baths; the men's side is named Genzo-no-yu (源蔵の湯) after the old house name, and the women's side is Shizuka-no-yu (静香の湯), named after Shizuka Gozen, the court dancer who is said to have passed through Naruko with Yoshitsune's party. Overnight guests can also use any of three free private baths at no extra charge, on a first-come basis.

221. Naruko Kanko Hotel, Naruko Onsen Visited on higaeri for 4 stickers on the local tegate (listed from 12:00 to 14:00). Breathing inside is excellent, good ventilation. Water in the main indoor bath is slightly cloudy, clear, with fine white lime deposits, temperature 41-42. There was also a small polygonal bath, but it was empty. Outdoor bath with no view, water slightly cloudy, clear, with fine lime deposits. Temperature 41-42. Didn't notice anything particularly interesting, and considering the inconvenient higaeri hours and price - you can skip this.
