Gero Onsen
Simple
Classification

Sodium Chloride spring

An alkaline simple thermal spring from Gero Onsen. At pH 9.1 it sits well into the alkaline range, giving the slippery beauty-water feel that smooths the skin. The water is lightly mineralized at 340 mg/kg, so it stays gentle on the body, while a generous 65.9 mg/kg of metasilicic acid leaves a thin silica film that makes skin feel noticeably smoother afterwards.

About

Sasara is a ryokan in Gero Onsen with 20 rooms that have their own outdoor bath. The large shared bath and open-air baths look out over the Hida River and the Gero townscape. For more privacy, there is a private reserved outdoor bath (kashikiri, 貸切) and private ganbanyoku (岩盤浴, a heated stone-bed sauna) that guests book by session. A sauna with cold bath rounds out the bathing options. Day visits are also welcome during midday hours.

54. Sasara, Gero onsen Went with a tegata for higaeri (listed from 12 to 15). The indoor bath has a really great view of the town, the riverside, and during my visit, the cherry blossoms. I think this is generally the best daytime town view of all the onsens I visited in Gero. The bath itself has a bubble zone. The outdoor bath also has a town view, but it's partially blocked by a wooden lattice. Water in both baths is hot, clear, with a noticeable chlorine smell. There's also a cold water bath. Highly recommended for the town view, especially during daytime higaeri hours.
