About

Two indoor baths, one lined with cypress (hinoki) wood and one built from rock, rotate between men and women throughout the day, so overnight guests can use both. The water is soft on the skin and has a gentle carbonated quality that makes long soaks easy. The cypress bath was renovated in early 2026 and now has a clean hinoki scent. The spring has been flowing since the Tenpo era (天保, early 1800s). Set on a large wooded plot in Ibaraki's Okuji area, this small ryokan is the only one in the prefecture to belong to the Nihon Hitoyu wo Mamoru Kai (日本秘湯を守る会), the society dedicated to preserving lesser-known hot springs across Japan.
