Rinkai-so is a small, 16-room ryokan on the coast at Katsuura. Its large indoor bath, separate for men and women, is filled with a dark, brownish natural hot spring water that guests describe as leaving the skin smooth. Overnight guests can also book the inn's signature private bath, shaped like a tai (sea bream), for a soak on their own. The building keeps a fisherman's-town feel, built in part from materials taken from old local houses, and both the guest rooms and the after-bath lounge look straight out over the Pacific, good for watching the sunset.
