A well-lived-in mountain inn in Akita's Akinomiya hot spring village, sitting on a sodium-chloride spring whose water is unusually smooth and clear for the area. The baths are scattered around the property rather than in one block, which gives the place a certain rambling charm. Takanoyu is a member of the Japan Association for Preservation of Secret Hot Springs (日本秘湯を守る会, Nihon Hitou wo Mamoru Kai), and the riverside setting on the Takinai River gives the whole stay a quiet, tucked-away feel.
