The building started life in 1958 as Yumoto Ryokan (湯元旅館), a lodge at the foot of Mt. Sanbe in Shimane. It was badly damaged in a 2018 earthquake and reopened in 2020 in a new form: a soba cafe with an onsen attached. The baths are fed by an iron-rich spring from Sanbe (三瓶山, Sanbe-san), and the water runs kakenagashi (源泉かけ流し), unheated and unrecirculated straight from the source. It comes out a deep, rusty brown. The indoor rock baths are split into separate men's and women's sections. After soaking, the kitchen serves hand-ground buckwheat soba made in-house.
