Completed the Japan Association of Secluded Hot Spring Inns stamp book

CertifiedAwarded by moderatorsAwarded by moderators for verified real-world certificates

The Japan Association of Secluded Hot Spring Inns (日本秘湯を守る会) was founded in 1975 to preserve remote, traditional onsen ryokan across Japan. Around 170-190 member inns participate, each identified by a distinctive white paper lantern (提灯) hung at the entrance.

The association runs a stamp book program: stay overnight at 10 different member ryokan within 3 years, and the association rewards you with a free one-night stay with meals at the member inn of your choice. Day-use visits do not count — only overnight stays with meals earn a stamp.

Member ryokan tend to be small, family-run establishments in remote mountain valleys, preserving traditional Japanese hospitality and authentic hot spring experiences.

How to earn

This badge is awarded by Onsen Oni moderators to users who have completed a stamp book (10 different member ryokan). Send evidence (completed stamp book or confirmation of your free stay) through the feedback channel and moderators will grant the badge. This badge is repeatable — the number on your tile shows how many stamp books you've completed.

Getting started

  1. Purchase a stamp book (スタンプ帳, ~¥1,500) at any member ryokan
  2. Stay overnight at 10 different member ryokan within 3 years
  3. Send the completed book to the association to claim your free stay
