Kyushu 88 Onsen Sennin
Completed the Kyushu 88 Onsen Pilgrimage
The Kyushu 88 Onsen Pilgrimage (九州八十八湯めぐり) is a stamp-rally program run by the Kyushu Tourism Organization (一般社団法人九州観光機構), spanning 88 designated hot spring facilities across all seven prefectures of Kyushu. Participants buy a stamp booklet called the Oyuin-chō (御湯印帳) for ¥100, collect one stamp per facility, and climb an 11-rank ladder whose apex — Sennin (泉人, "hot-spring person") — is reached at 88 stamps drawn from all seven prefectures.
How to earn
This badge is awarded by Onsen Oni moderators to users who have completed the Kyushu 88 Onsen Pilgrimage and received the Sennin certification. Send evidence of your completion (Oyuin-chō with all 88 stamps, Sennin 称号札 plaque, or discount voucher) through the feedback channel and moderators will grant the badge. Because the Sennin certification can be renewed in subsequent cycles, this badge is repeatable — the number on your tile shows how many times you've completed the circuit.
Rank tiers
The Oyuin-chō tracks your progress across eleven ranks on the way to Sennin:
- 8 stamps — 見習い (Apprentice)
- 16 stamps / 2 prefectures — 入門 (Entry)
- 24 stamps / 3 prefectures — 初級 (Beginner)
- 32 stamps / 4 prefectures — 中級 (Intermediate)
- 40 stamps / 5 prefectures — 初段 (1st Dan)
- 48 stamps / 5 prefectures — 二段 (2nd Dan)
- 56 stamps / 6 prefectures — 三段 (3rd Dan)
- 64 stamps / 6 prefectures — 四段 (4th Dan)
- 72 stamps / 7 prefectures — 風呂 (Pro)
- 80 stamps / 7 prefectures — 泉生 (Expert)
- 88 stamps / 7 prefectures — 泉人 (Sennin) — the final rank
Certification fees range from ¥500 for lower ranks up to ¥1,500 for first-time Sennin. First-time Sennin recipients receive the 泉人称号札 title plaque and a discount voucher (優待券) valid at select facilities; returning Sennin receive the voucher only at a reduced fee.
