Yamanoie sits beside the Ikashiro River in western Izu, where a spring has been flowing since around 1764. The outdoor baths (separate for men and women) are fully open to the sky, with forest-covered mountains on all sides and the sound of the river below. The water runs fresh and unaltered, the kind that has earned the nickname Kesho-no-yu (化粧の湯), or beauty water, since the place first opened. A small private indoor bath with a large window to the river is also available at no extra charge.
