Sodium Bicarbonate-Chloride spring

A hot (47.9 °C) sodium and magnesium bicarbonate-chloride spring. Weakly alkaline and soft on the skin, it sits in Japan's beauty-water family — the jūsō-sen profile softens the touch while the chloride share adds a faint salty warmth. Metasilicic acid at 199 mg/kg leaves the thin silica film that gives skin a noticeably smoother feel afterwards.

Sakurayu, located directly in front of Beppu Interchange on a 2000-tsubo site, is a hot spring facility with separate large baths for men and women and private family baths. The large baths offer indoor and open-air baths, while the family baths include 20 different types such as cypress baths, rock baths, granite, and ceramic baths arranged around a courtyard. A feature of Sakurayu's family baths is not only the variety but also the coin-operated system, allowing fresh hot spring water to be filled each time so you can always enjoy the first bath. The spring quality is a bicarbonate spring. It contains abundant metasilicic acid, which is expected to have a beautifying effect on the skin. Sakurayu's original hot spring cosmetics "Sakurabisui Series," made with this beautifying spring water, are popular both in-store and online.

121. Sakura-yu, Beppu An onsen complex with a public bath and 20(!) private baths. I went for the public one, costs 500. They give a stamp. A cat sleeps at the reception. The indoor bath is partly made of stone. Breathing is bearable. The outdoor bath is made of stone, on par with a decent ryokan without a view. Water is clear, hot. If you're in Beppu and need a lot of different private baths, it's hard to find a more packed place.
