About

Many people are captivated by the excellent quality of the spring water and visit frequently! "Kamitanoyu Kunititen" Onsen's history began in 1965. It is a hot spring greeted by a traditional cylindrical mailbox and a well-maintained Yakushi statue. A photo taken during the original drilling of the hot spring is displayed in the adjacent community center. In 1989, due to a decrease in temperature and spring volume, re-drilling was conducted. Even now, the tank is cleaned once a year and scale removal is done every two months. The parking lot is spacious, and due to the excellent spring quality, many fans come from afar. The bathhouse is designed so that you descend about three steps from the changing room to the bathing area, with no partition between them. During the day, sunlight shines in, gently illuminating the water surface. The bathing area is about 10 tatami mats in size, with a bathtub in the center that has rounded corners. The water is mild and easy for anyone to enter, flowing smoothly over the body’s surface. Immerse yourself up to your shoulders and enjoy the pleasant sensation. A lady who has been coming daily for 30 years said, "The quality of the spring here is really good, and the water feels great." Please come to this healing hot spring with a peaceful atmosphere.

85. Kunichiten Onsen, Beppu Grandpa onsen. Staff present (but there's a coin slot too in case staff isn't around). Costs 150, stamp available. Inside there's no shower or soap/shampoo. Rectangular bath, clear water, temperature is hot+. No full mineral composition sign, photographed what I found.
