Sodium Bicarbonate-Chloride spring

A sodium-led bicarbonate-chloride hot spring at 51.6 °C, with a chloride sub-type adding a salty edge to the bicarbonate softness. Weakly alkaline at pH 8.0 and soft on the skin, it sits in the Japanese beauty-water family. A generous 181 mg/kg of metasilicic acid leaves the kind of silica film that makes skin feel noticeably smoother. The water carries a faintly yellow-brown tint and a mild salty note on the lips.

About

A ryokan on Beppu's Kitahama waterfront, with a rooftop open-air bath (rotenburo, 露天風呂) that looks out over Beppu Bay. The onsen water flows fresh (kakenagashi, 源泉掛け流し). There is also a large indoor communal bath on the third floor, and select rooms come with their own private open-air onsen. No day-use bathing; overnight guests can also use the baths at two sister hotels, Tenkyu Yubo Seikaisо (天空湯房清海荘) and Hotel Sansenkan (ホテル三泉閣), at no extra charge.

156. Seaside Hotel Mimatsu OOETEI, Beppu Stayed overnight, didn't take meals. The hotel is slightly aged. Located on the waterfront, near a great walking area and not far from the station. Lots of hotels with onsens in this area. They don't stamp the onsen-do passport. The indoor bath is separately located downstairs. Water is clear with fine mineral deposits, the bath is entirely wooden, temperature hot-. Breathing is fine. The upper outdoor bath is on the rooftop. Great view, but for the full picture you need to stand up from the bath. You can see both the bay and the mountain to the right. Water is clear, temperature between warm and hot - you could sit in it for a very long time. I personally think a seamless view from the bath is better than having to stand up to enjoy the scenery. But this place still has a great atmosphere on the rooftop and there's a view of the mountain. The price was also one of the lowest among the scenic hotels I visited in Beppu.
