About

Bandai Nishimuraya sits in the mountain hot-spring town of Nakanosawa Onsen (中ノ沢温泉, Nakanosawa Onsen), which has drawn visitors since the mid-1700s. The water runs free-flowing (kakenagashi) without recirculation. It is a strongly acidic sulfur spring that turns milky-white to faintly green in the tub and leaves the skin with a clean, tingly finish. There are three bath areas: a rock bath (岩風呂, iwa-buro) and a hinoki indoor bath (檜風呂, hinoki-buro) that alternate between men and women on a time schedule, plus an open-air rotenburo that is open around the clock and looks out over a small stream. The inn has been welcoming guests for about a century.
