A sodium chloride spring with bicarbonate softness layered in, emerging at around 45 °C. The water is faintly yellow, tasteless and odorless, and weakly acidic. As a salty, heat-retaining chloride spring it leaves a thin mineral film on the skin and holds warmth well after bathing.

A hot spring with a retro atmosphere located along the Asamigawa River in the Hamawaki area. There are three private baths: Ayumi no Yu (cypress), Tama no Yu (rock), and Megumi no Yu (stone). You can enjoy exclusive use of the in-house sodium chloride bicarbonate spring. Shampoo and rinse are provided, and dryers and showers are fully equipped. The source water flowing into the wooden-framed bathtubs is a lightly brown cloudy hot spring. Soak in the hot water that makes your skin smooth and heal your daily fatigue.

So, the onsen of the day is Aratama Ryokan (新玉旅館). Also known as Nyantama Ryokan, a.k.a. the "cat balls" ryokan :) A ryokan for the strong and independent. Day use 11:30-16:00, 1500 yen, won't let you in without a prior reservation. They stamp the cat-themed Onsendo stamp. There are 3 small baths to choose from, but the choice is easy since all 3 are identical. No more than two people at a time. There's a river view from the window. Temperature was hot enough for Zhenya — I had to dilute it. The water is slightly cloudy, no strong smell, alkaline. Continued below
