Classification

Sodium HSiO3-Carbonate spring

A cold-mineral spring (20.6 °C) drawn from beneath Kinokawa, Wakayama, where sodium leads and fluoride, metaborate, and total sulfur each push the chemistry above the Hot Spring Act's qualifying thresholds. The water is strongly alkaline at pH 9.6 — it carries a faint H₂S note at the wellhead and the classic slippery 'beauty-water' feel of high-pH springs. Mineralization is light (0.25 g/kg total solids), and the source is heated for bathing. It does not meet the stricter 'therapeutic spring' bar, but the bath is a stop on the Kii-Izumi onsen pilgrimage circuit.

599. Jinzu Hot Spring, Kinokawa, Wakayama Onsen for 900 yen. Operating hours from 11:00 to 20:00 (closed Mon). They stamp the Wakayama 88 Onsen book. Inside there's an ad for a sauna with a window overlooking the forest. Bath photo from the internet matches reality. Indoor bath with clear water, has bubbles and single jet streams. The water felt slightly soapy on first immersion, but I didn't notice the effect after that. Temperature around 41.5°C. A bit stuffy inside. 12.06.2025
