A blended source drawing on wells No. 1 through No. 5 at Iide Onsen, sampled from the storage tank where they pool together. It is a sodium-calcium chloride water with bicarbonate softness and the quiet body of sulfate layered in — neutral in pH, moderately mineralized, and carrying a generous 129 mg/kg of metasilicic acid that places it in Japan's beauty-water family and leaves skin noticeably smoother. The posted notice names cuts, peripheral circulation disorders, cold sensitivity and dry skin among the conditions this spring type is documented for. The water rises at 51.7 °C, though the same notice states that in winter, when the source cools, it may be reheated to a comfortable bathing temperature.

Kairagiso is a public-run lodge (kokumin shukusha, 国民宿舎) deep in the Iide mountains, along the Tamagawa river in Yamagata. Its large indoor bath faces the Iide peaks, and the men's and women's sides swap daily. The spring here has an eight-hundred-year history, and the water runs a light brown color that leaves a rust-tinted stain on the tub. A day pass also covers the open-air bath at the annex next door, Kawairiso (川入荘), which closes for winter. The dining hall serves local mountain food, bear soup among it, to day visitors as well as overnight guests. It's a plain, older building at the end of a long mountain road, and hikers coming down from Mount Iide stop in for the bath as often as people staying the night.

Kokumin Shukusha Iide Kaihikari-so (国民宿舎 飯豊 梅花皮荘) A decent older hotel, more like a mountain lodge or something similar. The hotel is surrounded by mountains — incredible views. Only 2 baths but they're big. No rotenburo. Delicious food, everything from Yamagata. Higaeri available (500 yen). Rooms are a bit worn but nothing terrible. There are large rooms — we saw one for at least 5 people. No shower, shared toilet. Given the proximity to the mountains, I think it's more often used by hikers than regular tourists. Nearby there's apparently a cool rotenburo, but it's seasonal and we couldn't visit.
