A sodium-and-calcium chloride spring classified as a strong-salt (kyōen) source — its dissolved-solids load of 22.6 g/kg makes it denser than seawater and gives it a thick, heat-retaining body. At the wellhead the water is faintly yellow and slightly turbid, with a strongly salty, strongly bitter character and a faint oily note.
