About

The main outdoor bath is konyoku (混浴, mixed bathing), with a separate women's-only rotenburo alongside, both sitting above the Kurobe river in the gorge. The water comes out clear and leaves the skin noticeably smooth. The wooden ryokan building dates from the Meiji era and has 15 tatami rooms, no televisions, and no road access. You get here by the Kurobekyokoku Torokko Densha (黒部峡谷トロッコ電車), a narrow-gauge open-air train from Unazuki, then walk 20 minutes up a signed mountain path. The spring was in use as a secret bath from around 1645, when the Kaga domain (加賀藩) banned ordinary people from bathing here, until the prohibition was finally lifted in 1868.

I would throw it. But I have there... Only a photo from there. 🤗 The view from there is very cool, overlooking a mountain river. The bath itself, as they say, has hardly been rebuilt and has a very natural look. The water is clear, alkaline, and the temperature is pleasant, not too hot, although in summer it can get really hot from the sun. Getting there is not easy, and after Toroko, you still have to walk 40 minutes along a mountain road, but the road itself is generally comfortable. The views are simply magnificent.
