Kangetsuen

Kangetsuen is a large ryokan on the Tokachi River, built around the region's moru onsen (モール温泉), a plant-derived, mildly alkaline spring known locally for leaving skin silky smooth. Indoors there's a big communal bath along with a jacuzzi, a waterfall bath (utaseyu), a lying bath, and a walking bath; outside, a garden rotenburo looks over the river and, on clear mornings, the Hidaka mountains beyond. The outdoor bath and the baths built into some guest rooms run on fresh spring water rather than recirculating it. The sauna has been rebuilt in Finnish style with real loyly steam and a cold plunge to follow. Day-use bathing is available, including a morning-only plan that pairs a soak with the breakfast buffet. It's more a full-service hotel-style ryokan than a small inn, with river-view rooms and buffet dining alongside the baths.
