かなや明恵峡温泉

Kanaya Myōekyō Hot Spring

Operated by · 有田川町(町長 中山正隆)

Simple

A gentle, lightly mineralized alkaline hypotonic spring that qualifies as an onsen under Japan's Hot Spring Act on the strength of its total sulfur, fluoride, and metaboric acid content rather than any single dominant ion type. Because the source emerges below 25 °C as a cold-mineral spring, it is reheated year-round to a comfortable 40–42 °C for bathing. The certificate notes the water is not suitable for drinking.

640. Kanaya Myoekyo Hot Spring, Aridagawa, Wakayama ★ Onsen for 700 yen. Operating hours from 11:00 to 21:00. They stamp the 88 Onsen of Wakayama stamp book. Cool mostly-round building with a facade of old wood. Inside it's spacious and cozy, with a shop selling wooden crafts. Bath photos and data table from the internet match partially — there aren't many photos of the bath that look like what I remember. Outdoor stone bath with an adjoining reclining area. Pleasant view of trees, bamboo, and a forested mountain — natural atmosphere. Clear water, temperature 40. Indoor bath with clear water, temperature 41. Breathing inside is fine. A pleasant place. Worth keeping in mind if you're passing nearby. 03.11.2025
