A sodium chloride spring carrying dissolved sulfur — classed as a sulfur-bearing sodium-chloride water. At pH 9.1 it is alkaline with the slippery beauty-water feel on the skin, and the dissolved hydrogen sulfide gives it a sulfurous taste and the characteristic rotten-egg note. A hot source (47.8 °C) of moderate mineralization (about 3,900 mg/kg dissolved solids) with noticeable body.

Shirane-kan is a small day-use bathhouse in the village of Narada, deep in the Yamanashi mountains at the edge of the South Alps. The indoor bath is built entirely of cypress and split into men's and women's sides, each with a hot tub and a cooler one you can soak in for a long stretch. A separate stone-and-wood outdoor bath sits outside, also split by gender. The sulfur spring runs straight from the source with nothing added and keeps flowing fresh through the tubs. Bathers describe the water as noticeably silky on the skin and faintly salty, with a color that shifts almost every visit: clear one day, pale green or milky white the next. The building used to be a ryokan and still has that older inn feel, though these days it's bathing only. Locally it's known as Nanafushigi-no-yu (七不思議の湯), the hot spring of seven wonders, tied to an old legend about a hidden valley and an empress.

They stamp the Yamanashi 100 Onsen book. They stamp the Hayakawa towel. Bath photos are from the internet, match the real thing. Outdoor bath with a wooden frame along the edge. Standing up, there's a pleasant view of trees and mountains; sitting down, the view is lost behind bushes. Clear water with occasional fine white mineral deposits, faint sulfurous onsen smell, has a soapy feel. Temperature around 40. Indoor bath split into two by a partition.
