A simple thermal spring piped to this municipal facility in Beppu, hot at the source (61.8 °C). Weakly alkaline at around pH 8.1, it has the soft, slippery feel of the Japanese beauty-water family. Lightly mineralized overall at 823 mg/kg dissolved solids, it nonetheless carries a generous 179 mg/kg of metasilicic acid, which leaves a thin silica film for noticeably smoother skin.
