Shared bathing area for all genders
At the far end of Akiyama-go, hot spring water seeps up through the riverbed of the Nakatsu River. Visitors borrow a shovel from the nearby inn, dig a pool in the gravel, and regulate the temperature by mixing in river water, each person ends up with their own improvised open-air bath. The water is a calcium-sodium chloride-sulfate spring at around 54 degrees at the source, free to use.
