Yabakei Onsen Wakayama Onsen

A small mixed open-air bath attached to a roadside drive-in restaurant in the Shin-Yabakei gorge, the outdoor tub itself is compact, holding maybe five people, but the alkaline simple spring with a slight sulfur edge is natural and source-fed. Separate indoor baths are also available. The combination of honest country cooking and an unassuming outdoor soak in the gorge scenery gives it a distinct charm.
