About

Shuhoukaku Kogetsu (秀峰閣 湖月) sits on the northern shore of Lake Kawaguchi (河口湖), and both the indoor and outdoor baths look straight out at the lake with Mt. Fuji rising beyond. The rotenburo (open-air baths) are separated by gender, with no mixed bathing. Private reserved baths are available for guests after check-in, no advance booking needed. Some room types come with their own outdoor onsen bath on the terrace. There is also a foot bath terrace facing the same view. No day-use bathing.

164. Shuhoukaku Kogetsu, Kawaguchiko Stayed overnight. The hotel is on the north side of Lake Kawaguchiko (not always convenient to get to without a car). From a good room there's an excellent view of Fuji through near-panoramic windows. The room's air conditioning was perfectly set — always comfortable temperature-wise, and no drafts. The hotel also has its own backyard area where you can go right down to the lake to admire Fuji or even fish (saw different fishermen there several times). Near the back exit there's a foot bath with a great view through the onsen water flowing down a separate structure — you get a beautiful picture with Fuji reflected in the onsen water. For dinner there was an excellent kaiseki served in the room, they gave a double portion as I requested (I checked in alone, but the room is paid for a minimum of two). Breakfast was a standard buffet. Indoor bath with clear water, there's a bubble zone, temperature is hot+. Breathing inside is tolerable. Great view of Fuji. Outdoor bath with partial roof. Clear water, hot temperature. Also a great view of Fuji. Really liked both the stay and the baths, awesome place. For a view of Fuji — definitely recommendable (though at Kawaguchiko there's plenty to choose from with Fuji views).
