Sodium Chloride-Bicarbonate-Sulfate spring

A simple thermal spring with an exceptionally hot wellhead of 98.1 °C, cooled to about 53 °C at the bath. Very lightly mineralized at 0.099 g/kg dissolved solids, near-neutral at pH 6.5, with no sharp character — gentle on the body. Diluted with water on delivery because the wellhead is too hot; drinking is allowed only under permit.

About

A little-known local gem of a hot spring. Long ago it was a venerable onsen beloved by the lord of the Bungo-Mori Domain (today's Kusu Town). Its signature "Tonosama-yu" (Lord's Bath) is built with stones from that era, so you can soak just as a feudal lord once did, exactly as the name suggests.

146. Teruyu Onsen, Beppu ★★ An old-school onsen for ¥300. There’s a river with cherry blossoms nearby. Opening hours are listed as 09:00 to 21:00. They stamp the Beppu Onsen-do stamp, and the 88 Kyushu Onsen stamp. It takes part in Onsen Tamagodo. There is staff. No shower. The baths switch between men and women. 1. The first indoor bath option for men and women. The water is clear, slightly cloudy, with lime on the bottom. Temperature is 43. It’s comfortable to breathe inside. 2. The second indoor bath option for men and women. The water is clear, slightly cloudy, with lime on the bottom. Temperature is 44.5-45.5. It’s comfortable to breathe inside.
