Daisetsu Kogen Sanso (大雪高原山荘) is a mountain lodge deep in Daisetsuzan National Park, sitting at around 1,260 meters and reached by a 10km unpaved forest road. The lodge has both indoor and open-air baths; the rotenburo looks out over the surrounding peaks, and the spring water flows fresh without recirculation. Its origins go back to a 1954 typhoon that felled much of the surrounding forest. Workers clearing the blowdown found the spring and built a simple shelter there, which grew over the decades into the current lodge. Emperor Showa stopped in during a 1968 visit to Hokkaido. The lodge has been closed since the end of the 2024 season.
