548. Mitama Hot Spring, Ichikawamisato, Yamanashi ★★★ Top 1-2 onsen in Yamanashi, an incredible place. Its main rival in Yamanashi for the top spot is Hottarakashi. They're very similar in format, located on opposite mountain sides, and both have epic views of the city and mountains, so comparison is inevitable. In Mitama's favor: more interesting water, infinity onsen, slightly richer city view with more landmarks, slightly more panoramic view from the onsen overall, more services. In Hottarakashi's favor: better countryside atmosphere at the location, the postcard-worthy view of Mt. Fuji from the rotenburo, having two separate onsen zones in one place, opens very early. So on a day when Mt. Fuji isn't visible, Yamanashi's #1 onsen is Mitama, and on a day with Fuji visibility, Yamanashi's #1 is Hottarakashi. Super sento with onsen water for 850. Operating hours are listed as 10:00 to 23:00. They stamp the Yamanashi 100 Onsen book. Has a restaurant, massage, shop, and chill zone. The characters from Yuru Camp soaked in this onsen. Bath photos are from the internet, partially match — in person the view is more impressive and larger-scale (photos don't do it justice), and the water in the rotenburo looks more intensely red-brown. 1. Outdoor area with rotenburo with a superb view of the valley with the city and surrounding mountains. 1.1. Upper stone bath with infinity onsen. City and mountain view preserved. Clear red-brown water, temperature around 40. 1.2. Lower bath. The view shrinks due to the height difference and only the mountains are visible. Clear red-brown water, temperature around 39-40. 2. Indoor area. Breathing inside is good. 2.1. Upper bath. Clear red-brown water, temperature around 42. 2.2. Lower bath. Clear red-brown water, temperature around 38. 2.3. Sauna. 2.4. Cold bath. Top-tier place. If visiting Kofu and the area — it's a must. This onsen alone can be a reason to come to the city. 12.05.2025
