📍Hanayuu, Yamakawa Onsen, Kumamoto About the food: Dinner and breakfast are served in a separate room. Everything was delicious, and there was unexpectedly a lot of meat. On the first evening, they made sukiyaki. And when we had already eaten our fill, the woman who served us dinner said that we could ask for a free refill of beef, but we were ready to ask only for mercy. Then they brought us a two-tier dessert box and said we could eat as much as we could manage. On the second evening, dinner was different, for example, there was horse sashimi and little meat roses)) The desserts were new too, and there was a lot of them again! Also, on the second evening they brought us sake as a gift! That was very nice. The staff in general was very polite and friendly at this place. Overall, it was some kind of 12/10 experience: very beautiful, very cozy, very tasty, and just everything was great at this place! 11.06.2026, 12.06.2026

📍Hanayuu, Yamakawa Onsen, Kumamoto About the onsen: Besides the onsen in the rooms, there are also two public, but still private, onsen baths here, and you need to book them in advance. They ask you to make a reservation after 3:00 pm, and in the morning you can just come and take any one if it is free. One of the private onsen baths is called Sky Bath, and its rotenburo is supposed to have a great view of the night sky. But on the day we went there, it was cloudy in the evening))) The water in all the onsen baths had a moderate sulfur smell and a white sediment. In Sky Bath it was also too hot, so we could not sit there for long :( but the bath inside had a comfortable temperature They do not sell milk after the onsen, but at the entrance to the private onsen baths you can take ramune, and inside the onsen baths themselves there are also refrigerators with free non-alcoholic drinks. There were also special wooden trays there, on which you could let drinks float around the onsen Besides that, on the ryokan grounds there are two refrigerators with free ice cream, and it is not fruit ice, as is often the case, but proper creamy ice cream with different flavors. 11.06.2026, 12.06.2026

📍Hanayuu, Yamakawa Onsen, Kumamoto A small ryokan with only 11 rooms, divided into three types: - very simple, traditional rooms with tatami, no bath and no private onsen - rooms with beautiful stone rotenburo - three rooms that are basically separate cottages, with a rotenburo and a bath in a separate room (we stayed in one of these) The rooms are fully stocked, I’ve never seen anything like it anywhere else. Besides the fridge with free drinks (several kinds of soda, tea, beer), there was a soda streamer, a device for making plain water carbonated, a towel warmer cabinet, and a Dyson hair dryer. The toiletries were somehow L’Occitane (I can’t stand their scents), which is strange, since you’d expect some Japanese brand instead. There was also a BLUETOOTH SPEAKER, and thank all the Japanese gods that none of the neighbors decided to use it. Usually, at check-in they offer a choice of yukata, but here both days they asked whether we wanted to take different yukata? In case we were tired of the ones we had and wanted to walk around in different colors and patterns. In the morning they also asked whether we needed to restock any drinks in the fridge? There was also a gift in the room, a cosmetic pouch with the ryokan’s logo, and later they gave us Kumamon keychains too. 11.06.2026, 12.06.2026
